Widecombe fair
Tells the story of friends wanting a good day at the fair.
The rhyme verging on English Folk Song I about Eight drunken men travelling to Widecombe Fair.I've know this pottery for over 50yrs which I think makes it an antique some say that of me. It had a previous owner before me so I can vouch for its age.
As you can see from the photos it has seen better days but actually its doing well considering the type of pottery it is. The handle to the cream jug is a little shaky, marks to the glaze on the inside of the sugar, and nibbled teapot spout.
Tom Pearce Tom Pierce, lend me your grey mare
All along, down along, out along lee
For I want to go to Widecombe fair
Wi' Bill Brewer, Jan Stewer, Peter Gurney, Peter Davy, Dan'l Whiddon, Harry Hawk, Old uncle Tom Cobley and all.
